NEW SEASON IN THE BACKROOM

Christmas and New Year is now a fading memory.

The festivities are over. Even the leftovers have been eaten, digested and flushed down the toilet. 2025 is up and running and it's time to look to the future.

Which means that it's time for a new season of reviews and articles here in the backroom.

Longtime readers will know that every "season" has it's theme. In the summer it's usually Sci-Fi, in the autumn it's Halloween and at Christmas it's Christmassy horror and ghost stories.

The latter part of winter and spring is usually...themeless (basically anything goes), and this year is no exception.

Basically I'll be writing about pretty much anything that fits into the horror/Sci-Fi and cult/exploitation arena.

So expect gory horror from the classics to the modern era...

Scintillating Sci-Fi thrills...

And Bikers, babes and bullets from all corners of weird cinema and television.

One thing I'm definitely doing is going to review every episode of Hammer's classic 1980 TV series - The Hammer House Of Horror. I did an article on this show about a year ago which seemed to go down well enough, I'm currently doing a rewatch of the show so expect an episode by episode review series of that (in fact the next post on here coming over the next few days will be a review of the opening episode -Witching Time).

Before I go I've just got to mention the sad passing of director David Lynch - the man who bought us such delights as Eraserhead, Elephant Man and Blue Velvet as well as being the driving force behind one of my favourite TV shows of all time -Twin Peaks.

Simply put - the man was a stone cold bloody genius (and by all accounts a pretty nice bloke as well), he's one of my heroes and he's ABSOLUTELY IRREPLACEABLE.

There's already lots of Twin Peaks coverage on this site but I can't let Lynch's passing go unmarked on here - so definitely expect some reviews of some of his films shortly.

Anyway enjoy the rest of the shittiest month of the year if you can and hunker down to some good films to help you get through it.

See you soon.
