AFTER HALLOWEEN
It's November the first.
Halloween has been and gone for another year. How was it for you ?
So, with that in mind it's time to look to the future and give you a brief glimpse of what's going to be happening here at Tales From The Backroom over the next few weeks and months.
For the next couple of weeks or so I'm going to be sticking with the horror theme. So for those of you suffering from Halloween hangover who aren't quite ready to give up spooky season just yet then you can come back here to get your daily (or semi-daily) fix.
So you can expect (for a little while longer at least) more horror movie reviews plus some pre-code horror comic tales thrown in for good measure.
A quick word about the comic strips. They don't generally seem to generate as much views or interest as the reviews themselves but I do know that some of you like reading them (recently they've been getting better ratings than when I first started posting them). So, for now, they're here to stay. Once we get past Autumn, I'm going to go multi-genre with the comics, so expect not just pre-code terror tales but also some sci-fi and crime strips thrown into the mix as well. I'm not gonna lie but writing the reviews takes a lot of time and effort and after a busy shift at work or a heavy night at the weekend its sometimes nice to just kick back and post something a little less labour intensive. The strips allow me to do this. I feel they are a good fit for the site's themes and aesthetics and I'd sooner post them up than let the site go quiet for a couple of days.
On or around the 20th of November the site's going to switch gears and start looking towards that other festive season - Christmas. Don't worry, it's not going to become full on Santas and snowmen in here but there's definitely going to be some kind of linking festive theme.
My yueltide viewing is just as weird and eccentric as my rest of the year round viewing habits. So expect reviews of things like old Doctor Who Christmas specials, TV and movie Christmas ghost stories and Christmas/Winter themed horror and sci-fi movies (theres a surprisingly large amount out there. So I'm not going to be short of things to write about).
Speaking of Doctor Who - it's my favourite TV show by far and this November it celebrates it's 60th anniversary with three special episodes. So I'm certainly going to be posting reviews of them when they drop in late November/early December.
One final thing to mention. Over the next few weeks I'm going to be starting a new series of occasional articles called TV Memories. These wont be standard reviews. They're going to be more nostalgia based pieces detailing my past memories of watching classic television horror and Sci-fi. I grew up in the 70's and 80's and came of age in the 90's - decades when there was a LOT of good genre appropriate stuff on TV. I hope these articles can provoke some nostalgic feelings in my british readers and for my overseas readers they'll hopefully be a fascinating snapshot of what TV was like for someone growing up in a different country.
I'm going to be trying out different formats across the blog, keeping it fresh and new and I hope you all like the stuff I'm going to be doing. I'm not going to stray too far from the stuff that I know works, but it's nice as a writer not to feel constained by one set in stone format. I enjoyed writing some of the more free form articles that I posted over the Halloween season (like yesterday's ghost story) so I'll certainly be trying new stuff out as and when inspiration strikes me.
Enjoy the rest of the Autumn season (it still has a lot to offer) and be sure to drop by again soon. I'll leave you with a photo of me getting ready for last weekend's Halloween party. That wasn't my fancy dress outfit by the way, it's just how I look on good days...
